Android Market Auto Update

The Market application that comes pre-installed on the majority of Android mobiles, is allowing users to connect to the Android Market, the online application store, from where to download various applications. When connecting to Android Market, users will have to log in with a Google account and user name. At present, Android Market is counting more than 380.000 available applications, and more than 10 billion downloads.

Google is offering with the last released version 3.3.11 of Android Market, more improved features, as the ability to set all the applications to be updated automatically by default, to update only over Wi-Fi, and to create automatically for the new installed apps shortcuts, that are added to the home screen of the Android device. In addition to the updates features, the last version of Android Market is also allowing to search the market by voice, to update the home screen after apps were downloaded, and to see the app's ratings before proceeding with the download. In the case of the applications that are requesting new permissions, these will still have to be updated manually.

Even if the last updates made to the Android Market are not so revolutionary, this auto update feature was considered a major step ahead in front of Apple's App Store. Previously, Android users have had the possibility to auto-update the apps individually, but this new setting will apply the auto-update to all apps installed on the Android devices. In order to avoid data overage changes, users can also update only over Wi-Fi. Additional changes are including the auto-add options for shortcuts on the home screen, when new apps are installed, a command button by voice added in the search menu, the possibility to view the start rating chart in the information provided for the app, and smaller fonts.

The Android Police has warned Honeycomb users that there are still some auto-update issues with the new Android Market version, so updating the tablets can be made on their own risk.

Desktop Software For Google Android

A Google creation, the Android operating system has registered in the last period an impressive increase of the number of mobiles and tablets running on Android. This was possible mainly due to the continuous development of this operating system, that at the same time is giving users the possibility to personalize their mobiles according with their needs and requirements. An Android mobile is also offering an open access to a large number of applications that can be installed from Android Market. Some of the applications are coming preinstalled, but Android users can choose to install many others from the large number of available applications.

The large capabilities of Android mobiles are allowing users to store important information. In order to create a backup mode for saving this information also on computers, developers have also created some desktop software compatible with Google Android. This Android sync software is allowing users to synchronize the contacts, calendar, tasks and notes saved in Android mobiles, with the PC. CompanionLink will synchronize Outlook with the Android device, in a secure mode, using the USB cable. The data is transferred directly between devices, with not need to use cloud servers or air data transmission. This sync software is installing on the desktop and is working using a free Android app, called DejaOffice. In addition to the sync functionality, DejaOffice is also giving the business contacts, tasks, calendar and memos on the Android. The CompanionLink is synchronizing the following data:

  • contacts: all common fields as name, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, birthdays, contact notes, and for devices that are supporting the function, also the contact photos and categories;

  • calendar: event details, all day and recurring events, reminders, the meeting invites accepted, multiple calendars, and categories;

  • tasks: task priorities, due dates, categories, and the tasked completed from the Android phone are marked;

  • notes: categories, if the Android device is supporting this feature.

In order to use this synchronizing function for Android mobiles and desktops, users need to have installed the CompanionLink software on their PC's, the Microsoft Outlook program, and the DejaOffice app installed on the Android device.
