Android Acoustics Apps

Everyone knows by now that the Android Market is filled with all sorts of applications, from the ones that turn your phone into a professional camera, to those that help you aim a bullet while on the shooting range. In this article I’m going to tell you all about some of the best apps related to acoustics and some of the related fields.

First, I’m going to start off with an app that is very important to most electronic music creators and not only. The Acoustics Filter is an application that is able to amplify audio signals and it can also cancel interfering noises, all this in real-time. The app allows you to design filter by drawing the filter’s graph on the screen of the phone.  Acoustics Filter reads audio input data from the cell phones mic and then it processes the input signal through the filters designed by you. The results can be heard on the phone’s speaker or, for a better quality, on the phone’s headphones.

A 2$ application that is great for sound engineers is called Acoustics Basics. Media professionals and audiophiles can also take great advantage from this app which includes a variety of tables, equations, and tips that can be useful to all sorts of related activities. Resound Acoustics is a highly professional application which is pretty expensive for an Android app. For 12$ you can buy the app which provides a toolkit acoustics related calculations. You can measure things such as dBA sound weighting, noise rating, you can make comparisons of power and pressure of sounds from different distances, and you can also measure combined noise levels. This app might not be cheap, but the good thing about it is that if you are unhappy with it, you can get a full refund within 24 hours of the purchase.

Other acoustics related apps include some great virtual acoustic guitar apps. Most of them are free and they allow you to sing and make great music, using some simple Android apps. It’s like carrying around a miniature guitar with you, anywhere you go.
