With the Skype mobile app on their Android devices, users can enjoy the following benefits:

  • Skype global rates – the same rates for all global lines and mobiles; no extra cost;

  • Stop counting minutes – possibility to call Skype to Skype, IM, and to make global calls, without using the wireless plan minutes;

  • Free calls included – with a Verizon Wireless 3G smartphone, users can make free Skype to Skype calls, and IM.

The last released Skype mobile app version for Android was the 2.5. With this version, users are able to make Skype to Skype video calls, or to call other phones using the Skype rates on the move. With the Skype 2.5, the voice and video calls Skype to Skype are for free, and the calls to other phones and landlines, are charged with the Skype rates on the move. The video calls are supported only by some of the Android mobiles, that are having the required features.

Users that are having mobiles with the 2.2 version of Android, also called Froyo, or superior versions, can enable the video calling from the Skype settings. If these settings are not available, this means that the video calls are not supported by the phone. However, the video calls might not have the same quality, as those made from a certified device. On devices running on Android Froyo, for the video calls only the back side camera will function. The reason is that the Skype mobile app, is allowing only to devices with Android 2.3 version or higher, to access the front camera.

At present, Skype app for Android can be downloaded for free from Android Market. The same developer has created and made available to Android users, few other Skype versions, as Skype mobile on Verizon, Skype for au, Skype on Telkomsel, and Skype on Vodafone.
