The database with the contacts from an Android device, is integrated with Google Contacts. This way, when logging it, the contacts information from Android device will be synchronized with the Google account. Saving phone numbers and email addresses in the contacts, can assure that the address book remains protected on the Google cloud, and from there available for synchronizing back with the Android device, any time wanted.
Backing up applications
Making a backup of the applications installed on an Android device to Google server, is a much useful option, as the developed apps for back-up, created by developers. This is because, backing up applications on Google, is allowing to get updates of the apps, thing that in the case of a APK backup, it is not possible.

Google has made in the last time, some improvements in making the backup process more accessible and functional. The backup on cloud was available starting with Android 2.0 version, allowing to apps to be associated with a Google account. When log in to a new mobile with 2.0+ version, the applications installed previously will be restored. The procedure will take only few minutes, after the phone is reset. In order that this options becomes functional, the “Back up my settings” feature has to be checked in the settings menu, before switching devices. The associated data, as for example the progress on games, or the exercise history, were not kept when restoring the applications.
But, starting with Froyo, which is the Android 2.2 version, users can synchronize the backed up applications, on a new device, exactly how they were before. The only condition is that the developers are including this backup feature, when creating their apps. This API (Application Programming Interface) feature, will allow users to recover not only the installed apps, but also the personal data that was saved when using a specific app.
