Toshiba Honeycomb tablet gets named and priced

For anyone staying in touch with the Android world, you might have gotten a glimpse at the Toshiba Android tablet back in January in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show. Although humble at the time, running still a highly modified version of Android 2.3 the device was still in a very early pre-production mode. However, Toshiba did get its device together and now we’ve gotten the chance to hear some more news and information on it as it finally has a name and a price tag.

The Toshiba Android tablet will be named the Toshiba ANT-100 for the 8 GB version, ANT-102 for the 16 GB model while the ANT-104 is the 32 GB model. The device has some pretty cool prices as well and I am more than confident that it’s more than competitive, making sure to compete easily even with the top dogs. As such ANT-100 can be picked up for as low as $450, ANT-102 will be available for $500 and ANT-104 for as low as $580. This aggressive pricing in my view goes well with Toshiba’s claims regarding the tablet being more than capable of standings its ground against the onslaught of dual-core monsters out on the market.

The Toshiba ANT tablet will be coming with an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz per core. This will be powering the device with its 10.1 inch display which comes with a native resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, all of this running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The battery life is estimated to reach the 7 hour mark thanks to its 6 cell battery which can be replaced ( unlike in other tablets ). In the media department Toshiba ANT will be coming with a 5 megapixels rear facing camera, while if you check out the front of the device you will find a 2 megapixels camera sitting.

Despite the cool specs and the hardcore hardware under the shiny exterior, the device is rather hefty. It measures in at 10.7 x 6.9 x 0.6 inches ( that’s 272 x 175 x 15 mm ) while on the weight department you’ll see it’s a touch harder than the competition as it comes in at 771 grams ( that’s 27.2 ounces ). Despite the heftiness of it ( I know it sounds weird ), I still consider that it has what it takes to compete.1

Toshiba Android tablet – coming to Best Buy

Back in Las Vegas sometime around the beginning of the year, Toshiba showcased a new and upcoming Android tablet. As time passed, I was still very interested in seeing what Toshiba would bring to the market, as we’ve seen quite a number of manufacturer’s join in on the tablet wars that have been going on. In any case, the tablet had some pretty cool features which did grab a lot of people’s attention and there are some rumors going around that we will be getting it rather soon via Best Buy. Keep on reading to find out more!

The Toshiba Android tablet was showcased at the Consumer Electronic Show, but back then it was still coming with Android 2.2 Froyo on top of it and it was largely still a pre-production model. Despite that, the technical specs of the Toshiba tablet were indeed top of the notch and this time around we know just a touch more about the tablet itself.

The specs of the device sure look like pretty cool and what I’m really intrigued about is the display technology, as Toshiba is using a few new technologies to increase image quality on that 10.1 inch display. Pricing will be rather competitive according to certain sources as we might be getting the tablet for as low as an Apple iPad 2, but with the larger display, Android on top of it and USB ports for the people. Toshiba did claim that they wanted to create an experience which would be a lot closer to a PC experience rather than a tablet one.

For better or for worse I’m quite curious about this upcoming Android tablet from Toshiba and can’t wait to see how well their claims will indeed turn true. Stay tuned for more on this!1
