Android Apps Download Without Google

There are many apps created for the Android platform that are not developed by Google. I don’t know from where this false impression that Google has created the applications that run on this system, which is true, is made by a division of the Google giant company, that is named as you know “Android”. But if you are afraid of Google and you don’t want to have your data read by this company, (I know that they store somewhere the information about the persons that use their services, but I don’t know what they do with these information), you can use also other apps created by the Android developers, which are not exactly paid by Android, but more by those who advertise on their sites, within their applications, or simply by people who buy their applications.

The first two variants referred to the free applications, which are not bought by anyone, because the developer offers them for free, to show the world that he or she or they, if there are more, are capable of delivering great and free apps, at the same time. But they need to have a sponsor to pay the developers, the engineers and so on. One of the apps that are not created by Google and which do not have a relationship with this company whatsoever, is the Haypi Kingdom For Papaya, built by Papaya Mobile Inc. If you don’t want to install the app from the Android site, where the app is described and also has the Install button, then you can visit the site of the manufacturer, where most likely you will find the same Download button. The site is papayamobile.com.

Even though this is a free application, it has been installed only by 1000 people. The size is of 4 MB and the screenshots that I see are extremely beautiful. They manage to transport you in a world filled with dreams that come true. I like very much the fact that I see green towns or villages. This is important, we need to show our children that only with the green technologies we can protect our Earth.1

Android Apps Market

The Android Apps Market is probably one of the biggest reasons for the success behind the Android platform as a whole. Despite tons of claims regarding the fact that it doesn’t measure up to the iPhone App market, the Android Market managed to grow substantially in the past few months crossing the 150 thousand apps mark just a while back. It is also probably one of the reasons for which you might even consider developing for Android instead of iOS as anyone developing applications for it can post them.

Android’s App Market is the place to head to if you are looking for applications for your Android smartphone or Android tablet. Considering the wide array of applications available for free and considering that even the paid apps rarely go over the $5 mark, I think it’s a great place to start looking for software to customize your device. A few months back the webpage was released and introduced a huge number of new features and the users finally had the opportunity to check out reviews for their apps as well as the detailed information on the fly from their PCs. The market itself evolved a lot recently and thanks to some solid improvements set up by some “private” Android Markets, it’s bound to improve even more.

For some of you who have been with us for a while now, I can point you towards the Vodafone Android Apps Market which was one of the best “custom” markets for Android applications out there. Besides a cool algorithm to put the most appreciated applications on top, you had the possibility of paying for apps via Vodafone itself. Of course this was limited to the Vodafone users and to some regions, but the number of great leaps forward it showed are slowly but surely moving over to Google’s Android Market itself.

As such we can look forward for in-app payment methods which will allow you to purchase application content directly from the developer as well as carrier based payments. Considering also the steady growth in applications developed for Android and the ever increasing number of developers migrating to Android, I can safely say that Google’s mobile OS is catching up on Apple’s iOS. Stay tuned for more as we will also do Android Market application reviews!1

Quad-Core powered Android Smartphones from Motorola

There are a few months since we saw the first dual-core smartphone really enter the market and NVIDIA already showed off its Tegra 3 chip which will be launching this year with a tablet first and a smartphone to follow it up towards the end of the year. The new Tegra 3 chip is a quad-core platform that delivers almost an equal power to that of a desktop processor ( mind you I’m not exactly saying that we are entering Sandy Bridge territory, but it’s something to keep in mind ). While browsing through the pages, my attention got drawn by some rumors circulating from Motorola.

The US market barely got hold of some dual-core goodness in these past few months ( weeks really ), with T-Mobile G2X finally hitting the North American market and already rumors are circulating regarding the Tegra 3 chip. To be quite precise it seems that Motorola is working on two new devices which are rumored for launch sometime in Q1 of 2012. One of them is named Motorola Bullet, which will be your run of the mill quad-core powered Android slate. Motorola’s Jet is rumored to be a smartphone with a QWERTY slide out keyboard, most likely continuing the Motorola Droid tradition.

Other than the quad-core processor in these beasts, there have been some specs circulating, but note that all of this is still heavily filed in the rumor department so don’t go overboard in celebrating just yet. As such, Motorola Bullet is rumored to launch with a 4.3 inch qHD display ( that’s 540 x 960 pixels ) and will come with the Tegra 3 chip accompanied by 1 or 2 GB of RAM ( as I said, these are still very early leaks on these 2 devices ). Motorola Jet is rumored to ship with a 4 inch display with the same resolution as the bigger Bullet, with the same Tegra 3 chip and the same amount of RAM on board.

The storage is rumored to be around the 16 GB mark with rear-facing cameras going up to the 12 megapixels mark. No word exactly on when these devices will be hitting the market other than the roughly sketched Q1 of 2012. No pictures or images are available either, so again, stay tuned for more !1

Android 2.1 Os Bluetooth

It’s a well known fact that quite a high number of manufacturers saw a great increase in their sales figures, when switching to the Android platform. The best known case is probably that of Motorola which saw pretty high losses and small market shares before switching to the platform, but this quickly changed with the release of some top of the line devices on the market, consolidating their position as one of the strongest telecommunications company out there. This time around, it’s Sony Ericsson’s turn to say thank you to Android.

The company recently released a press statement in which it showed off its sales figures for this first quarter. As such Sony Ericsson managed to ship 8.1 million units in this first quarter of 2011, which is down compared to the 1st quarter of 2010. Then the company managed to ship 10.5 million units or the same time period in Q4, when managed to reach 11.2 million units shipped. Despite this small decline, the company increased its average selling price per unit which went up from 134 Euros in Q1 of 2010 and 136 Euros, to 141 Euros per unit.

Said sales figures boosted the company to reach sales exceeding 1,145 million Euros, which still is lower than the 1,405 million Euros reached in Q1 of 2010 or the 1,528 million Euros for Q4 of the same year. The company’s President and CEO, Bert Nordberg, stated that despite the problems generated by the Japanese earthquake, the company is shifting strongly towards the Android sector which according to him, is the key to success for the company. He briefly mentioned the introduction of Xperia Arc, as well as Xperia Play towards the end of the quarter and as these devices will be reaching more retailers and carriers, the company’s sales should be picking up.

This latest statement goes along with the recent announcement Sony Ericsson released regarding the delays for Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, which because of the earthquake saw some shortages in the supply chain of some key components. In any case, all of this is great news as the manufacturer is expected to launch several more devices this year. Keep it up Sony Ericsson!1

Intel’s chip will be powering 6 Android notebooks

The tension between Intel and Microsoft has been growing so slowly, that Intel’s CEO argued on Nokia’s decision to go for the Windows Mobile platform rather than picking Android OS. Notebook manufacturers claim the fact  that Intel’s x86 chipset will be landing on several notebooks which will run the Android operating system.

Inventec and Compal Electronics have claimed that these upcoming Android notebooks should be announced in April. According the them, the chances are high for Intel to make the official announcement in Beijing at their Intel Developer Forum which will be held on the 12th and 13th of April. In case the company won’t be set for the announcement, it’s rumored that we will still hear about these devices powered by the Intel chipset sometimes later this year – most likely at the Computex Taiper conference.

For those of you wondering why this is great news, well just think about how much it costs a company to get the license for Windows OS. Now take that number and delete it. That’s right folks, if the notebook manufacturers head over towards Android OS this will largely decrease the production cost and we will be getting cheaper and cheaper devices running with our favorite platform. The fact that Intel decided not to use their MeeGo platform, might also suggest that the manufacturer wants to leverage the marketing strength of the Android platform especially amongst enthusiasts. Despite that, even MeeGo is free and we might even see some devices pop up this year as well.

There are rumors about Intel working heavily with Google on a Chrome OS based notebook, but there are just rumors for the time being. In any case, grab your Android smartphone and your Android notebook ( powered by an Intel processor of course ) and head over to a nearby caffe to show off – I know I will.1
