Android OS 2.1

The Android operating system runs not only on the mobile devices, that are known as smartphones, but on tablets as well. In this case, you can use a tablet to build some new applications, if you are a developer and want to design your own application. This can be done in several ways. Either you get the tools from Android or if you are that smart and you don’t need the help that can be offered by Android engineers and by others just like you, you develop the application by yourself, but this does not grant you the possibility of creating the app exactly for this platform. Who knows, maybe the app works on your tablet, but it will not run on the tablets had by some other people, simply because you refused to be a part of the Android community of developers.

When you start planning to create an application for Android, whether that application is created for 2.1 version or higher or lower, the user who creates those apps must be integrated into this system, which is the Community. Of course, for this you have to pay, but I know that the payment is less than 100 dollars or something like this. To get more details, why not enter the Android site?

Some other thing I want to emphasize is that the technology with which you will work, at least one of them, is PHP. You have definitely heard of this scripting language, because this is the most popular and the most searched for when it comes to getting a job in Web development or in applications development. Hypertext pre-processor is the most common explanation when it comes to the title of this language. There are more explanations, but you can read more about them on the Web. Today, I want to present you a site from where you can actually learn how to work with this language. I will mention some of this in my future articles, one of them being tomorrow at the same hour, so stay close!1

Adidas miCoach is an app that is created for the Android devices, which let you understand what are the regions in your body that you need to workout while you run. Obviously, more exercised will be the feet, and not the hands, because you don’t run in your hands. miCoach uses the GPS system and you need to place a little device in your phone that is connected to the smartphone that runs the Android operating system and then connected to the GPS. It is a free application.

In this way, you will learn faster where is the better place to run, for you. If you are in your native town, then most likely you know what are the areas where you can run without the fear that you might get hit by a car who is running too fast. You should search for parks and green areas to do this activity. You can measure the distance that you made in one day, how much time passed since you started to run in that park and how much time will you spend in that other park and so on. You can set all sort of factors. The calories that you burn will be also shown on the screen. The app requires Android 2.1 or up. This is no problem, as I said in my previos articles, because now there are devices which run on the Android 3.0 version or later. If you have an older smartphone, then you can use this device to run the app only if you update the operating system.

The device must allow you to update the system, because it can happen the same situation like it happens with the computers that do not have enough memory to run a later version of an OS created for computers, this time. If you want to update from Windows XP, for example, to Windows 7, you need at least 2 GB in memory, and if you don’t and the computer does not let you to update the memory, since the maximum capacity of it is of 1 GB, then you will never run Windows 7. Maybe the Starter edition, but I don’t know if this will run correctly.1

A List Of All The Android Apps Available

I guess that the best list with the available Android applications is offered by the Android site. Just enter the Android Market and see the available applications. The apps are presented even if they were released in 2009. From 2009 to 2011, the producer of that app might transform itself into a producer for the Apple platform. The app may be available on the Android Market site, but the app might not be available on this platform.

In order to avoid this, you should look when the app was updated last time. If you have browsed this Website until now, you probably know that here I present only applications that were released last year and that were updated this year. A producer which does not update their applications, it means that he or she does not care about their users. In these conditions, you should not buy or download apps from them.

The main page of the Android site shows you the paid applications, which are extremely popular and the free apps. The paid and the free apps are presented in number of 10. So, you get to see the first 10 paid apps and the first 10 free apps. The difference is that these apps are changing permanently, because the number of downloads that the app have daily is also changing. These charts are made in real-time and they depend on the number of downloads that the application has.

But on this site, you can see more than the charts in which there are included the paid and the free apps. You can see also the applications included in diverse categories, such as Communication, Books and Reference, Games, Weather and more. There are many apps and it took me an entire article just to write the names of the categories.

Make sure to enter the Android Market site to see them all. This is the most accurate and official source of the Android applications. And if you enter this site while you are using the Android device that you have, then the app can be installed. You cannot install an Android application on your computer. They only work on the Android-based smartphones and tablets.1

10 Android Apps

I am supposed to name 10 Android apps and I will name the first applications that are in the Communication category on the Android Market site. Because I like all the apps that are created for this platform and also the ones created for the Apple platform, I can’t say that yes, the X application is my favorite one, because all of them are important. It is a bit frustrating when you see that there are some applications which do not run as their manufacturer says they do or which force close. But luckily, there comes the update time and the problems get solved one way or another.

But let’s go back to the countdown, which is in fact not a countdown, but a top of the applications which are in the top free preferences of the Android users. They are taken directly from the Android Market site, which I invite you to access by clicking on this link. Ok, let’s get started.

  1. The first application is Kakao Talk, which is developed by Kakao and which has received 5 stars from the users. I will not mention this anymore, because all the apps have 5 stars out of 5. This is something normal, considering that the apps are all free and they are at the top.
  2. WhatsApp Messenger is the second app present on the Android Market site. The name says is all. It is an instant messaging program.
  3. Gmail. No further explanations.
  4. Yahoo! Mail. The same.
  5. TiKL- Touch to Talk, developed by TiKL, installed by more than 100000 people.
  6. Handcent SMS. Created by Handcent_admin.
  7. Daum MyPeople mVoIP, by Daum Communications.
  8. Google Voice
  9. Skype
  10. Anti-virus free by AVG Mobilation.

My advice when you don’t seem to be capable of running an app is to contact directly the manufacturer, instead of taking the face of an upset person who does not want to hear about that manufacturer. Think about it: by telling them that the app does not work properly on Motorola Droid X let’s say, you will announce the manufacturer that there is a problem and they will try to solve it. Especially if they require money for the app that they have created. Don’t be indifferent and let the situation go. You will do yourself a good and also the other people who run a Motorola smartphone and have the same problem when trying to use that app.1
