Android Os For Laptops

Android is one of the best things that happened to the mobile technology in these past few years and it’s spreading like a wildfire ( not a HTC Wildfire mind you ). The operating system’s great success is largely based on the fact that even the smaller companies can migrate to the mobile sector without having to devote huge amounts of resources to customizing and developing an operating system for their smartphones, yet this trend moved on even to the laptop and net-book market which has been seeing more and more Android in its diet.

The Android OS for laptops isn’t something so new and unheard of lately. We’ve been getting more and more of those little monsters and you know what – it’s all good. There are a number of good elements to this as Android as an operating system is highly secure thanks to its close relation to Linux and considering that it was developed for the smartphone market, it’s lightweight. By this I mean obviously the print it leaves on your resource monitor. Whereas Microsoft’s Windows, even the Starter version mind you  is quite the resource hog, Android OS does quite well in dealing with limited resources.

As such, Android OS for laptops is good from the point of view of resource management, yet considering that its Linux based, it’s also free. This obviously means lower final cost of the device you think of purchasing. Let’s be honest that no matter how cool a new device is, you might wish to stop and think about the financial investment you are going to make in the short to near future. Among the first devices to showcase this trend is Toshiba AC100 which came with Android 2.1 Éclair, NVIDIA’s Tegra 250 CPU, 512 MB of RAM DDR2 clocked at 333 MHz and 10.1 inch display with LED back light.

Now think that this isn’t awesome power by any means, but thanks to the low resource requirements of Android you can get up to 8 hours of usage out of this ultra portable device. Sound investment? I’d say so. Thinking that you get access to the cloud as well, I would drop some cash in that direction. Combine this with an Android OS powered smartphone and you’ve got yourself a deal breaker. Stay tuned for more on this!1

Android iPhone Killer

Ever since Android managed to get some more scene action people have been wondering when Android iPhone Killer would emerge. There are major differences between the current existing Android smartphones, so finding one which could tackle the Apple iPhone not only on the specs part of the deal but the software part as well is quite difficult. This time around I will try to focus on two Android devices which might just be powerful enough to take on the mighty iPhone from Apple and maybe even give some of you newer users a good look at what you’ll be getting for your money.

The first contestant on the Android iPhone killer sector is LG Optimus 2X which has just recently been launched in the US as well under the name of G2X with T-Mobile. The device goes for $199 on a 2 year subscription and might just have what it takes to fight iPhone. The LG Optimus 2X comes with NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 dual core processor, it has 512 MB of RAM along with 8 GB of storage. Running on top of it is Android 2.2 Froyo with rumors going around regarding an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Of course, there’s always the ability to root this little monster but that’s a different story.

LG Optimus 2X has more than enough power to become an Android iPhone killer, yet I would note that Android 2.2 Froyo is somewhat outdated for this battle and the display has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels giving a lower pixel density than what we find on iPhone. Other than that, if you are interested in raw power, LG Optimus 2X outclasses the iPhone in every aspect.

The other contestant seems even more appropriate to be named the Android iPhone killer as it comes with the same NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, but with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of on board storage. We are talking about Motorola Atrix which is available at AT&T. The device has a 4 inch qHD display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels and enough power to tackle Apple’s iPhone. The battery life is high thanks to the 1930 mAh power and with great new features. I think we might be looking at Android iPhone Killer. Check out their respective pages and get yours !1

Acer Iconia Tab A500 tablet with Rooted Google Android

Although we barely got the first few looks at Acer’s more serious entry on the Android tablet market, we already have root for the Iconia Tab A500. If you are wondering who pulled it off it means you are sort of new to the whole Android scene because it was the friendly neighborhood XDA Developer. The tablet was barely released and saw the first glimmers of daylight and we already get the chance to play around with it and maybe even get a chance of bricking it ourselves. Keep on reading for a detailed view on the matter!

Acer’s Iconia Tab A500 got into the lucky hands of one XDA Developer named monki-magic. He posted a step by step guide on how to get your very own Iconia Tab A500 rooted but always beware as this can always run the danger of bricking your device. If you are a brave soul then keep on reading. This was largely thanks to the hard work of XDA moderator Chainfire who recently released his Gingerbreak rooting tool which allows the user to finally gain superuser permissions on the device they are rooting.

In case you are new to the whole rooting business, then the basic idea is to really get the most of your device in terms of customization. The rooting process will allow you to really play around with the dozens of settings and really get a device which reflects you. I will be posting the links to the full thread HERE and the step by step guide HERE ( just click on the links to see the full list of how to get your device rooted ). Quad-Core powered Android Smartphones from Motorola

There are a few months since we saw the first dual-core smartphone really enter the market and NVIDIA already showed off its Tegra 3 chip which will be launching this year with a tablet first and a smartphone to follow it up towards the end of the year. The new Tegra 3 chip is a quad-core platform that delivers almost an equal power to that of a desktop processor ( mind you I’m not exactly saying that we are entering Sandy Bridge territory, but it’s something to keep in mind ). While browsing through the pages, my attention got drawn by some rumors circulating from Motorola.

The US market barely got hold of some dual-core goodness in these past few months ( weeks really ), with T-Mobile G2X finally hitting the North American market and already rumors are circulating regarding the Tegra 3 chip. To be quite precise it seems that Motorola is working on two new devices which are rumored for launch sometime in Q1 of 2012. One of them is named Motorola Bullet, which will be your run of the mill quad-core powered Android slate. Motorola’s Jet is rumored to be a smartphone with a QWERTY slide out keyboard, most likely continuing the Motorola Droid tradition.

Other than the quad-core processor in these beasts, there have been some specs circulating, but note that all of this is still heavily filed in the rumor department so don’t go overboard in celebrating just yet. As such, Motorola Bullet is rumored to launch with a 4.3 inch qHD display ( that’s 540 x 960 pixels ) and will come with the Tegra 3 chip accompanied by 1 or 2 GB of RAM ( as I said, these are still very early leaks on these 2 devices ). Motorola Jet is rumored to ship with a 4 inch display with the same resolution as the bigger Bullet, with the same Tegra 3 chip and the same amount of RAM on board.

The storage is rumored to be around the 16 GB mark with rear-facing cameras going up to the 12 megapixels mark. No word exactly on when these devices will be hitting the market other than the roughly sketched Q1 of 2012. No pictures or images are available either, so again, stay tuned for more !1

HTC Flyer available for pre-order at Best Buy

HTC’s Flyer is the first tablet the manufacturer is releasing on the market and represents the first step the company is taking into this highly competitive sector. A while back we had the first few looks at some rumors regarding this, being only the first step HTC is taking on the tablet market. It seems that an 8.9 inch as well as a 10.1 inch version are to follow HTC Flyer later this year, but let’s focus on the task at hand which is HTC Flyer being available for a pre-order at Best Buy.

The device is still not really up for grabs just yet, but you can pre-order yours at Best Buy with the price tag being set at $499 for the unit. For this sum you will get HTC Flyer with its 7 inch display, that has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Still staying on the hardcore specs side, Flyer will also come with a 1.5 GHz single core processor along with 1 GB of RAM to help it power trough Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread with the company announcing that it will receive an update to Android 3.0 Honeycomb after its launch.

HTC’s Flyer will be shipping for $499 for the 16 GB version of the tablet, but you do get a micro SD card slot so you can add another 32 GB of storage to it. On the multimedia aspect of things, Flyer will come with 2 cameras, with a 5 megapixels shooter on the rear of the device and a 1.3 megapixels camera on the front. The device manages to stand out from the crowd thanks to its uni-body design along with some pretty cool elements added to the tablet. The most notable of such features that HTC Flyer comes with is the stylus which will allow you to use the tablet as a small notebook or a drawing tablet.

All in all, the tablet stands out from the crowd but considering the ridiculously low price tag the Asus Eee Pad Transformer is shipping with and the higher rated specs, I feel that HTC will have to drop the price tag. I think we’ll just have to wait and see as pre-orders are starting with the 25th of April. Stay tuned for more!1
