Samsung Galaxy S II release date in the UK

Samsung Galaxy S II is probably one of the most anticipated Android smartphones of the year. With beastly specs and the killer new Super AMOLED Plus display,  Galaxy S II seems more than a worthy successor to the first Galaxy S Android smartphone. The device got some rumored release dates here and there and we had the chance to enjoy some leaked documents from certain carriers or retailers, but this time around Samsung gave the word.

The Korea manufacturer stated that the “most powerful smartphone yet” made by them, will be reaching the UK on the 1st of May. For all of you who want to get your greedy little hands on one of these monsters, it seems that we’ll have to wait only a few short weeks and this time around we know it from Samsung. So unlike the large majority of news flying around the web, this one isn’t stamped as a rumor but as a solid fact.

Samsung’s Galaxy S II will be coming in with a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, which does look a whole lot better than the first Super AMOLED series ( not as if that one looked bad at all ). The device will weight only 116 grams and will be rocking a 1.2 GHz dual-core application processor ( by this confirming the fact that the Galaxy S II will indeed be shipping with a 1.2 GHz dual core and not 1 GHz dual-core as initially expected ).

The company went on saying that the Samsung Galaxy S II will be available across all the major retailers and networks, so you won’t have to worry about signing a contract with anyone new just to get your hands on it. However, there is no official pricing going for it, but I think we can expect the device to be roughly in the 750-800 US dollar mark area, maybe even a touch pricier, depending obviously on retailer and so forth.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9

After a long series of teasers and images in which we got small glimpses of Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, the manufacturer finally released some images as well as showcased the 8.9 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab. The device is packed full of cool new features and saw its introduction in the companionship of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Keep on reading for a full hands-on with the device.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 8.9 comes in as an attempt of the company to fill the gap between Samsung Galaxy Tab ( the 7 inch one ) and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Despite being right in the middle of the line, Galaxy Tab 8.9 comes with the same top of the line specs as its bigger brother, the 10.1 version of Galaxy Tab.

You see only the top of the line at the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. The dual-core processor offers the punch the device needs and the version of Touchwiz showcased for the platform looks really good, but then again, I do have my issues with manufacturer added UI’s. Galaxy Tab 8.9 comes in measuring 230.9 x 157.8 x 8.6 mm (that’s 9.09 x 6.21 x 0.33 inches ) and will weight only 470 grams ( that’s 1.03 pounds ). Just like the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9 looks very sleek and seems to have quite a lot of horse power under that slim exterior.

All in all the device looks great, although Samsung didn’t bring a functioning model to CTIA so we didn’t get the chance to see it in action, but other than that, the device seems great all in all. Pricing for Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is set at $469 for the Wi-Fi only 16GB one and $569 for the 32 GB one. Launch is set for the 8th of June. Stay tuned!1

New Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 introduced

Although had a great success when first showcased at Mobile World Congress a while back, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has seen a swift makeover. It seems that the company did take the threat the Apple iPad 2 posed as pretty serious. They started working on the new and improved version of the tablet before the original version was even launched. Despite that, the “old” version of the Android tablet will still see its launch at Vodafone in Europe.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 measures in at 0.33 inches in thickness, which would put it just below the Apple iPad 2’s 0.34 inches. The technical specifications of the tablet are still top notch, although this time around Samsung showcased the tablet in its still non-functional form. So we’ll have to wait a little before getting our hands on the new fully powered up Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The specs look pretty top of the notch, with the main difference being that the camera saw a downgrade from the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The device will come in 3 different storage models, with 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB with micro SD card slot which will allow you to add another 32 GB of storage to your tablet. The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 measures 256.6 x 172.9 x 8.6 mm ( that’s 10.10 x 6.80 x 0.33 inches ) and will weight only 595 grams ( that’s 1.31 pounds ).

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 looks great, it’s slim, it has some serious punch under that sleek hood and will set you back $499 for the WiFi only version with 16 GB of storage, while the 32 GB one will go for $599. The device is set for launch on the 8th of June, so keep your eyes on retailers for that one!1

Samsung shows of teaser for upcoming 8.9 inch Tablet

After the great presence, the Samsung manufacturer showed back at the Mobile World Congress past month in Barcelona, with the announcement of Samsung Galaxy S2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It seems that there’s nothing left in their path and that they are on their way of getting some more work done. This time we’re talking about the rumored Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 which showed itself a couple of times already.

Now this time around Samsung employs effects that they’ve found in certain video editing software, so again we don’t get to see much of the tablet although we do get small glimpses at the User Interface which does look like Android OS and some Touchwiz thrown into the mix. Although thanks to the resourcefulness of the guys over at Samsung we didn’t get to see what version of the operating system it will be running or what exactly will be in there.

However we did get to see some more connectors here and there, and obviously the fact  that the tablet will be nicely placed between Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and that this newest addition to the lineup is really thin. The device is set to be showcased later this month, on the 22nd of March to be more precise at Samsung Mobile Unpacket in Orlando, Florida. If you are in the neighborhood you could pop over and hope to see more than some flashy Adobe Premier effects and get the first few good looks at Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.

Despite my annoyance regarding such videos which are only there to increase the hype on a device which we didn’t even get to see, I’m still going to drop you boys and girls a quick link to the video, and if you get the chance to see more of the tablet than I did, feel free to share photos. If not, then start getting some cash and head over to Orlando, Florida on the 22nd of this month and get a good look at what all of this is about. Stay tuned for more!1

Carphone Warehouse sees its Android sales skyrocket by 2000%

The increasing success of the Android platform isn’t something Google is making up as there are a number of statistics showing this off. Starting with the last report  showing off the increase of sales for the platform by 1,580 per cent in 2010 compared to 2009, this time around major UK retailer Carphone Warehouse recorded over 1 million Android smartphones sold in the past year, thus showing an increase in sales of over 2000 per cent in 2010.

The success of the retailer was also due to the fact that it managed to grab exclusive rights to some Android devices like Samsung Nexus S which couldn’t be purchased anywhere else. The company is already working on setting up exclusive rights for the upcoming HTC Incredible S as well as Motorola Xoom Android tablet. With such incoming devices to the retailer the instant success is pretty much guaranteed.

Carphone Warehouse said in a press release that, and I quote, “The success of Android smartphones such as the HTC Desire, HTC Wildfire and Samsung Galaxy S have been key in reaching  this milestone, and with the new launching including the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Samsung Galaxy S2, and LG Optimus 3D in the pipeline, it looks set to be continued. In addition, exclusive launches like the HTC Incredible S and Google Nexus S ensure customers are offered market-leading, innovative technology as soon as it becomes available”.

The company also released an advert which does have a cool way of sneaking in on you as the Android logo is spread all over the place while the little Droid is helping you out in every single imaginable aspect of your daily life. However I’m really happy for the fact that there are 1 million users out now with Android smartphones in their pockets and with the avalanche of upcoming devices. Stay tuned for more news about the Android platform!1
